General Luna...Your holy
week destination
Toni de Villa
The Presentation unfolds on Holy Monday which marks the
beginning of what will transpire in the days ahead. Holy Tuesday sets the parade of
colorful re-enacments of Jesus Christ's suffering. And here, General Luna boasts its
colorful presentation of Roman soldiers known as CENTURION. People who
are participating wear masks with very colorful costumes in the hues of yellow, red &
blue. These are crafted by hands and are made of Japanese paper. Then, the 14 Stations of
the Cross come on Holy Wednesday which is known as BUHAY NA KUBOL. What
is very interesting about this is that all the 14 Stations are presented in a tableau
located at different points of the town, which will soon come alive. And in the afternoon
of Holy Wednesday, the holy procession will pass to each station where devotees may
meditate.
But, did you know that? Concerted efforts are made
before this? Each barangay chooses one station to be presented. This only proves how
Filipinos, particularly Quezonians encourage teamwork in getting things done!
And every Good Friday, the characters of each station
will now come alive and reenacts the depicted scene of the Passion of Jesus Christ. ( Now,
you wonder if they ever move out of their place since Holy Wednesday. That's something we
have to find out.) And then procession starts once again where thousands of people
participate wearing "nothing" on their feet. The 2 hour procession transcends
the spirit of sacrifice as we take part in the message of the Lenten Season
The highlights are not over until it is Easter
Sunday. The time for merriment as we now enjoy the new life that Jesus Christ has given to
mankind. By this time, everyone is all set to where else...but the beach! And the best
place to be is in Mamao Beach and General Luna is very much proud of this.
Now that Holy Week is coming swiftly, it is timely and
wise to spend it places like this where you can feel the serenity and difference. So, if
