Food, food, food…
by Toni de Villa

It’s every Filipino’s favorite – to eat! I can not imagine how my every meal like without rice and good dish. And it must be really satisfying when I get a good chance enjoying my snacks, which we are all fond of.

Several snacks are in town. Lucena can boast of its sweet spicy noodles called “chami” partnered with toasted bread and an ounce of your favorite soda. But Lucban is most famous for its noodles called “pancit lucban.” Contrary to the usual Chinese noodles we know, this is made of rice flour, brown-colored and is much thinner than the usual ones we see. Original noodles can be found in Lucban and is priced of about P30 per kilo (when cooked, this is good for a group of 10 or more).

it is done in the usual cooking of most “pancits.” With onions, a bit of garlic, sliced meat, carrots, cabbage, chicken broth and a bit of soy sauce. Once ready to eat, vinegar is served for an additional spice and delightful eating. Because this is a usual “merienda,” it isn’t surprising that we see people eat this in a banana leaf with no fork at all. We simply use…our mouth and sip all the noodles you can get. By the way, one serving you buy in the street is sold at P5 only.

Well, try those ones in the streets of Lucban and will definitely give you a satisfying experience and delectable taste.

Lucban is one of the most-visited places in Quezon Province especially during summer. It has continued to be the undeniable Summer Capital in Southen Tagalog for its inviting and cold weather. It was told in the myth that five men found Lucban Quezon during the 16th century in the persons of Marcos Tigla, Lucas Guimba, Lucas Galandang, Lucas Nanawa and Antonio Manduman. And it was in fact, Marcos Tigla who became the first “kapitan.” A year later, people flocked in this town not only because of its weather but also its places. One particular site is its church. It was built in 1630 by the order of Kapitan Lucas Martin. But in 1732, a huge fire hit this Roman Catholic church and none was left except for the convent. But years later, it was rebuilt and has remained to be sure spot for tourist until now for its nostalgic façade.
